New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Hon Murray Mc Cully paid a visit to day March 3, 2010 to the International Relations Commission where he was cordially received by International Relations Commissioner Dr, Nabeel Shaath. Mr. Mc Cully was accompanied by a high level New Zealand delegation of HE Ms Andrea Smith, New Zealand Ambassador, HE Mr. Jim Mc Lay, New Zealand Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Dr. Jonathan Austin, Foreign Affairs advisor to the Minister, Mr. Hamish Mac Laster, Director of the Middle East and Africa Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Wellington and Mr. Tom Kennedy, Second Secretary, New Zealand Embassy Ankara.
After the warm welcome, Dr. Nabeel Shaath discussed with his New Zealand guests the latest political developments in light of the Israeli procrastination policy and the stumbling peace process. Dr. Shaath endorsed the position of the Palestinian President not to resume negotiations as long as the Israelis continue their expansionist policies of settlement construction, the Walls, the Judaization of Moslem Shrines in Hebron, Jerusalem, Bethlehem and other places. Dr. Shaath called for a stronger political pressure on Israel in order to respect its commitments and honor its obligations.
Dr. Shaath said that the Palestinians will carry on their non-violent resistance against the Israeli violations and continue their activity on International level to move the International Community in general and the Western allies of Israel, mainly the US to shoulder their responsibilities towards peaceful settlement.
On the Internal level Dr. Shaath talked about Palestinian reconciliation and expressed his hope that Hamas will sign the Egyptian paper before going to the Arab Summit in Libya during this month.
From the Palestinian side the Meeting was attended by Dr. Sabri Saidam, Deputy Chairman of Fatah Revolutionary Council, Mahmoud Labadi Head of media dept. and Faraj Zioud, European Desk.
