NEFF GORDON CALLS FOR INTERNATIONAL BOYCOTT OF ISRAEL

The Israeli Political scientist Neff Gordon, a lecturer at the Ben Gurion University in the Negev called in an article published in the US Newspaper, Los Angeles Times for an International boycott of the state of Israel and asked the Israeli citizens to support such a dramatic step. Gordon wrote that the International boycott is the only way to save Israel from itself, for it is impossible to describe the ruling regime in Israel other than an Apartheid Regime. The article published on late February 2010 provoked sharp reactions in the Israeli media. Gordon wrote that the 3.5 million Palestinians who live nowadays in the occupied territories are subjected to two separate legal systems. They don’t enjoy the basic human rights, while at the same time half a million of Jewish Settlers live in the same area and are subjected to laws similar to those in Israel. Gordon admitted that it is not easy for him as an Israeli and a Jew to call states, regional powers, International NGOs and individuals to boycott Israel and freeze their relations with it. Yet, he is convinced that such boycott despite its bitterness constitutes the only way to save Israel from itself. Gordon concluded his article by saying that the two-state solution is the most realistic solution, but in order to implement it, the whole world has to exert pressure on Israel. Therefore, he has decided to support the concept of boycott because all other means have failed.
