Demonstrators chant slogans against settlement and ethnic cleansing

SHEIKH JARRAH In the Jerusalem Quarter of Sheikh Jarrah tens of Palestinians, Israeli peace activists and International Solidarnosh staged on Friday, February 19, 2010 a peaceful demonstration in the threatened Sheikh Jarrah Quarter in East Jerusalem and succeeded to reach the house of the Hanoun family. The demonstrators raised slogans against ethnic cleansing and the evacuation of Palestinians from their houses in the Quarter and giving them to extremist settlers.. Israeli police has previously closed the area with barricades and iron checkpoints and dispersed tens of soldiers from the special commandoes and frontier guards and tried to prohibit hundreds of Solidarnosh to join the demonstration in front of the threatened house of the Hanoun family. The demonstrators held a puppet of Netanyahu asking him to stop his procrastination and enter into serious negotiations to put an end to the Palestinian sufferings and put an end to the occupation and settlement in the Palestinian occupied territories. Loud voices of drums and whistling of the demonstrators were heard in the quarter as an expression of their rejection to the occupation and the siege of the Sheikh Jarrah Quarter and against the insistence of the Israeli extreme right to extract Palestinians from their homes and replace them by Jewish extremists who oppose peaceful coexistence with Palestinians. According to eyewitness two Palestinians from the quarter were detained after their attempt to reach the house of Abdel Fattah El Ghawi in the heart of the quarter that became a center for Police activities. SILWAN The Israeli Mayor of Jerusalem Nir Barkat declared that he will demolish 38 Palestinian houses in the Silwan Quarter in East Jerusalem. In a meeting with the Palestinian newspapers Barkat emphasized that the houses will be demolished in order to build what he called the “Gardens of King David”. Barkat claimed that the proposed Garden is the closest to the so called Jewish Temple. He said that the proposed Garden will be a center of touristic attraction which might attract 10 million tourists every year. He also said that he operates according to well studied plan by the Municipality, the Knesset (parliament) and the Government. He also said that there is for the first time a unanimous stand in the Municipal Council and in the future the City will witness basic changes. It is worth mentioning that Israel is accelerating its Judaization steps in the Holy City sacred to three monotheistic religions. Such colonialist steps will definitely antagonize the religious sentiments of the Christians and Muslims around the two Christian and Muslim worlds. BEIT UMMAR In the village of Beit Ummar to the North of Hebron Israeli Police and Army quelled on February 19, 2010 a peaceful demonstration against the occupation of Palestinian land properties. Eyewitness reports said that the army was accompanied by armed extremist Jewish settlers who faced the marchers and prevented the demonstrators from reaching to the threatened area of Khallet el Kutleh near the Jewish settlement of Karmei Tzur erected on stolen Palestinian land properties. During the demonstration hand clashes erupted between the Army and settlers on the one hand and the Palestinian demonstrators on the other. Israeli soldiers used clubs to beat the demonstrators, they used tear gas bombs to disperse the demonstrators which led to bruises and suffocation casualties.
