During the weekly demonstrations against the Israeli expansionist Wall on Friday, February 5, 2010 tens of Palestinians, international and Israeli peace activists inhaled tear gas launched by Israeli soldiers against the peaceful demonstrators.
In Bil’in: In the village of Bil’in to the West of Ramallah where the Israelis are constructing their expansionist Wall on Palestinian stolen properties the demonstrators started their weekly march from the center of the village towards the Expansionist Wall. On their way to the Wall they raised Palestinian flags and banners rejecting the Wall construction on their confiscated lands. They also called for national unity and for the freedom of prisoners detained by the Israeli forces. As usual, the demonstration was accompanied by Israeli peace activists and International “Solidarnosh”, as well as by Mr. Thierry Falat from the European Union who came to observe Israeli violations against the demonstrators.
The Israeli soldiers who were hiding behind the huge concrete cubic barriers launched tear gas bombs, sound bombs and rubber coated bullets against the demonstrators. They also chased the demonstrators inside the streets of the village, which led to tens of suffocation cases including a solidarity peace activist from Island.
Similar protests were launched against the Israeli land grab in Ni’lin, in Nabi Saleh near Ramallah, in Maasara to the South of Bethlehem, in Beit Ummar to the North of Hebron, the same as in East Jerusalem (Sheikh Jarrah).
EAST JERUSALEM
TENS OF PALESTINIANS, ISRAELIS AND INTERNATIONAL PEACE ACTIVISTS DEMONSTRATE
Tens of Palestinian Jerusalemites, Israeli peace activists from the Israeli Left as well as International “Solidarnosh” gathered on Friday, February 5, 2010 in the threatened area of Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem to protest against Israeli measures of house demolitions and ethnic cleansing measures in the threatened Quarter of Sheikh Jarrah.
Despite cold weather and rain; and despite the massing of police and security forces who closed the area with road blocks in order to prevent Palestinian citizens from joining the sit-in or the stand out. The demonstrators gathered and stood in ranks and chanted slogans against the Israeli settlement in Sheikh Jarrah such as: “NO TO SETTLEMENT IN SHEIKH JARRAH” ….”NO TO JUDAIZATION” … YES TO PEACE ……… and NO TO OCCUPATION”. The demonstrators whistled in coordination of their slogans condemning the Israeli aggressive policy in the threatened quarter.
David Grossman, the famous Israeli writer told the journalists who used to cover the weekly events, that the Israeli high court was unjust towards the rights of the Palestinian families who were ordered to evacuate their houses. “The 28 families who were ordered to evacuate are the real owners of the houses and the Israeli court refused to recognize their ownership documents (TABU) issued during the Turkish rule. Darweesh Suleiman Hijazi a citizen from the threatened quarter said that “all the area belongs to Palestinian citizens with documents registered in the land registration office and the religious court of Jerusalem; while the Israeli settlers have no documents to prove their ownership.” He also said that “our problem is with the Israeli court and the Israeli legal system; and if you have the legal system against you, so to whom you will complain?” “Only to God”!!!!!
Hijazi explained that “he has a list of all properties of the quarter, in addition to areas which were divided into very small parcels in the forties which were rented by some Jews in Sheikh Jarrah before the Nakba of 1948 indicating that the lists provided by the Religious Court reveals all changes on the pieces rented to Jews and what were they paying as rent and shows any change in the renting documents”. He also said that “the expulsion of Palestinians from their properties is an act of vandalism against the law and with the police protection.”
