WEEKLY MARCHES AND DEMONSTRATIONS

Weekly non-violent marches and demonstrations against the Israeli occupation and its repressive measures took place in different places in the Palestinian territories in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. The Demonstrators of this weekend Friday April 16, 2010 called for the intensification of the popular resistance against the Expansionist Wall and settlements stealing the land properties of the Palestinian people living under Israeli occupation. The demonstrations were staged in different places and villages in the West Bank including Bil’in, Ni’lin and Nabi Saleh to the northwest of Ramallah and in Massara and Al Walajeh to South of Bethlehem. In Al Walajeh six Israeli military vehicles detained three Palestinian citizens and in Beit Ummar to the North of Hebron two Palestinian young men were wounded The demonstrators celebrated the 36th anniversary of the “Prisoners Day” and called for the release of 11 thousand Palestinian prisoners suffering inside Israeli jails. They also called International Human Rights Organizations to shoulder their responsibilities to intervene on behalf of the prisoners to protect the prisoners and compel the Israeli occupation Authorities to abide by the International laws and the 4th Geneva Convention and to work seriously to free all Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails. They also called for additional efforts to end the sufferings of the prisoners and support their steadfastness inside Israeli prisons and support their families. In the villages of Bil’in and Ni’lin tens of Palestinian and international “Solidarnosh” had to inhale tear gas launched by the Israeli soldiers and suffered suffocation casualties, including Central Committee member of Fatah Sultan Abul Einein. During the demonstrations the Palestinian activists raised Palestinian flags and pictures of Marwan Al Barghouti, Mahmoud Dhamra “Abu Awad” and other Palestinian prisoners. The demonstrators raised the pictures of the late martyr Abu Jihad celebrating the 22nd Anniversary of his martyrdom. Martyr Abu Jihad killed by Israeli commandoes in Tunis in April1988. During the demonstration in Bil’in Intissar el Wazeer, the widow of Abu Jihad held a speech in memory of her assassinated husband. She said that the anniversary of his assassination is enlightening to us and the coming generations to continue the path of struggle and resistance against the Israeli occupation until the creation of a Palestinian independent state with East-Jerusalem as its Capital. In the village of Beit Ummar to the North of Hebron Israeli soldiers broke-in to a celebration in solidarity with the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and started to shoot at the gathering. As a result of the shooting two Palestinian youth were wounded with live bullets and had to be hospitalized; moreover, tens of suffocation casualties were registered. The gathering was raising also slogans against the Israeli military order to deport Palestinians from the West Bank under the accusation of being “infiltrators” in their own country
