The newly elected Mayor of Jerusalem Nir Barkat supports the construction of Jewish Quarter in Arab East Jerusalem on the lands of the Arab village of Anata to the North of Jerusalem. Barkat justified his new old drive by the construction of new apartments for Jewish young couples, while Palestinians are denied construction in their own city. Israel denies giving construction permits to Palestinian Jerusalemites and is active in demolishing their houses if they build without Israeli permits
